67,000 UK construction workers lost their jobs last quarter, the largest of any UK economy sector

According to the Office of National Statistics, the number of jobs decreased by 3.1% between June and September 2009, from 2,162,000 to 2,095,000.

The number of jobs in construction has fallen by 8.2% over the past year, amounting to a 187,000 reduction.
