Six members of the North East business community will swap their suits for cycle shorts to ride the length of the UK for charity

Among the six-man peloton will be commercial property experts Bob Fletcher FRICS of Sanderson Weatherall LLP and David Furniss MRICS of BNP Paribas. The team are aiming to ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in a gruelling ten-day trip beginning 23 June.

The 1,000-mile route will see them cycle over 83 hours and ascend a combined total of 70,000ft.

“It’s going to be a challenge but it’s one we can’t wait to get started on!” said Bob Fletcher, Director of Retail Agency for Sanderson Weatherall LLP. “Between the six of us we have completed over 20 coast-to-coast trips, from East to West. One bright spark then suggested we do a coast-to-coast ride again but this time head-to-toe – it’s certainly going to be an adventure.

“The recently formed Hadrian Cycle Club is made up of business professionals who share a love of mountain biking and road cycling.

“We have been meeting regularly for over ten years and it’s great to be able to turn our passion into an activity that can raise much-needed money for charity. So far, we’ve collected over £16,000 and we are hoping to reach our overall £20,000 target.”

The other members of the group joining Bob and David are Andy Tiplady from 3663 Food Services, Jeff Wild from environmental and engineering firm, AECOM and Steve Ralph from IT software specialist, Oracle.

They will be supported by Paul Casebourne from Engineered Solutions, who will drive, cook and set-up camp for the group over the ten days.

The trip will raise funds for a number of charities including Tree Aid, Macmillan Cancer Support, Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Research UK, Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, Hospitality Action, St Oswald’s and NSPCC.
