What is your current job?
I am the chief executive officer for DTZ International Property Advisers in India, in charge of the India business.

What is the most interesting aspect of your job?
Winning new clients and assignments, driving growth and delivering results to the
shareholders. We’re creating a unique quality differentiator in our services, which has helped a relatively young company like us take on long established and large competitors.

And the most challenging?
Employee engagement and employee retention in a rising market.

What does your typical working day involve?
Client meetings, keeping an eye on the numbers, phone calls while spending time in this city’s traffic, or on flights (on the days when I am travelling). My day begins with yoga and spending time with family at home and ends with a family dinner if I am not travelling.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in property?
I joined CBRE in 1995, when nobody had heard of professional services in real estate in India. I was young and a risk taker. It was an interesting unknown, and I took the plunge.

How did you get to this point in your career?
Four countries, two continents, one international MBA degree, right career moves and ‘if you don’t ask you don’t get’ attitude.

What is your greatest professional achievement to date?
My appointment as the chief executive of the India business. What’s more, I am proud that we were awarded ‘Best Property Consultancy in India’ at the Asia Pacific Property Awards in association with Bloomberg and RICS. And, being awarded as the alumnus with outstanding achievement by Alma Mater DFS, DU.

What are your views on RICS?
The RICS is the most respected professional body in real estate globally. We are very proud to be associated with RICS in India and participate in enhancing professionalism in an otherwise not very organised industry in the country. RICS in India is also an effective medium to influence government and in turn future real estate policies for the benefit of the industry in country and to align it with the global standards.

What are your plans for the future?
Our vision for the India business is three-fold – to be top of the mind in terms of client recall, to deliver an ongoing profit margin consistent with Group and DTZ India and to be an employer of choice. In the process, we want to triple our business in the next four years.
